Kawah Ijen
Ijen Crater is an iconic natural tourist destination in East Java, offering rare beauty such as the Blue Fire phenomenon at night and the turquoise acid lake. Bromo

Madakaripura was spectacular - standing under the waterfall felt fantastic. Our local guide was very patient and took beautiful pictures from us . Please bring shoes that can get wet - but no flip flops or hiking boots, because you walk through the river.
Sunrise at Mount Bromo was also interesting- also the atmosphere around.
For the hike to Ijen we had to get up at midnight , but it was absolutely worth it . The blue fire wasn't there that night - but this light blue sulfur lake was so beautiful to see - we will never forget this view. Ipul, our local guide for Ijen, was very funny which made the hike a bit easier 🙂 . The tour was very informative.
Both hotels were fine - better than we expected- clean and very nice staff.
The fried bananas we received for breakfast at the café at Ijen were the best we had in Indonesia .
Our guides Yuli and Nuu helped us with everything and at the end organized the ferry to Bali and the driver to Ubud. The

The entire trip was incredibly intense, adventurous, and unforgettable. We climbed volcanoes, enjoyed an amazing early-morning jeep ride, watched a breathtaking sunrise, and even saw volcanic activity. One of the biggest highlights was the night hike to the sulfur lake at Ijen, which felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We also visited Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, one of the most powerful and beautiful waterfalls we have ever seen in Indonesia.
Our driver, Jovan, was absolutely fantastic. He was kind, professional, and very attentive to our needs. He fulfilled every request, stopped wherever we wanted, and always knew when we needed rest and sleep in the car and when we felt like talking. He truly took great care of us throughout the journey.
We would also like to mention Ersya, who was the person we communicated with via WhatsApp. She provided excellent customer service, she was extremely helpful, explained everything in detail, answered all our questions, and clearly described how the tour works, including all costs. She also gave us flexibility, for example allowing us to arrange our own accommodation if we wanted. Communication with her was smooth, friendly, and very professional.
We chose a private tour for two people, which made the experience even more comfortable and personal. Everything was well organized and conducted in English.

We had a fantastic team looking after us for the majority of our holiday in Jawa (Java). The helpful Erysa in the office who went ‘the extra mile’, as we say, to arrange all the places we needed to see and the accommodation in East Java; the train tickets from Yogyakarta to Bandung and the Whoosh from Bandung to Jakarta.
Not forgetting, of course, our wonderful and kind driving team taking us here there and everywhere and arranging the entrance tickets for the wonderful places we visited.

Day 1
Collected from hotel in Malang by friendly and professional driver Yono and taken to the waterfall. You will get absolutely soaked doing this walk from the spray at the bottom so dress accordingly and have a spare change of clothes. You can rent rubber shoes for 20k which I would definitely recommend as a lot of the walk in fully submerged in rivers and deep puddles of water and flip flops wouldn't give enough grip. The walk down is pretty steep and slippery but manageable. You also visit the caves and other waterfalls on the way back up. Our guide Sopi was a great photographer and a great guide.
Day 2
The hotels on this trip were very nice and good quality as was the restaurants we stopped at, only breakfast included, lunch and dinner as your own expense. A ridiculously early start to beat the traffic, not a lot of hiking as the Jeeps take you most of the way up, dress warm as a lot of waiting around for sunrise. Our guide Nour was really friendly and kept morale high during the long wait. We also had a hot drink and Pisang(fried banana). Then we were jeeped to the crater and got to hike up to the edge and look Into it! Not too crazy a walk, quite manageable. Then onto the hotel closer to Ijen and we could sleep from 4pm-10pm.
Day 3
An even ridiculously early start, at 11pm the same day to drive to Ijen for a 2am start as that's when the park opens. A breakfast in a box provided by the hotel. This bit of the tour was an actual hiking day. I'd recommend hiring the hiking poles for 25k per pole. It's a decently steep climb up to the crater edge and then a decent climb down into it to see the sulphur blue flames. Quite slippy and screey. The early start is essential as it gets so busy so better to get down before the crowds. Our guide Fifi was a superstar, got us up and down safely picking a good route, going at a steady pace and kept checking that everyone was together and doing well. Then he took us to a great sunrise spot away from the crowds and so beautiful!
Our other driver Kiki was brilliant and got us quickly between stops and kept us well informed of the program and then at the end saw us off on the ferry to Bali.
